GOB Earth Inc. - Plastic-Free Earplugs
PROWL is the exclusive product design partner for GOB, the world’s first plastic-free earplug with a conscience made from lab-grown mycelium. These single-use plugs have been engineered by nature to tune your experiences to the right volume, without any harmful materials or chemicals. They are completely home compostable and will feed the ground wherever they end up.
Earplugs might not sound like a big environmental problem, but the world manufactures 40 billion of them a year. To put that into context, if laid end-to-end, 40 billion earplugs would stretch over 2.4 million miles, which is enough to wrap around the Earth nearly 100 times.
Process
To this day, single-use earplugs are still made of petroleum-based materials, mostly PVC, which are endocrine disrupting, cancer-causing, and inflict environmental harm. There was an opportunity to replace the current solutions on the market with one made from materials that don’t just do less harm, but actually regenerates the health of the planet with every use.
Through extensive research & development, PROWL studied the material properties and manufacturability of mycelium - the naturally sound-dampening root-like structure of fungi - in order to bring GOB’s vision to life.
